We offer business management and accountancy services to those in the talent and entertainment sectors who dread the idea of accountancy.
Who shiver at the mention of the words.
Who’d do anything to avoid the crinkle-suited, energy-sapping tedium it invokes.
We set up as the answer to all that. Actually, not just an answer, but an antidote.
A man who has worked in, and wholeheartedly rejected, the world of corporate finance. And a man who died a little bit inside every time he saw accountancy prove its own stereotype.
So Nick did the only thing he could. He set up his own company, BigStar; setting out to prove he could do it differently...
BigStar would offer all the financial nous anyone could ever expect from an accountant. But he’d focus it on the sector that he really cared about: music and entertainment. And more than that, BigStar would offer business management (all the day to day money management) alongside accountancy, so that it would engage with clients as talent, not as cash registers.
The company’s still young, but he was onto something. And so the he soon became we. Nick assembled a crack team of like-minded experts*, and developed a growing roster of clients across the music and entertainment industry, from world-famous talent to the management, agents and rights-holders backstage.
It turns out people prefer their finances handled by people who are invested in their career aims, ambitions and aspirations. Who knew?
*an underlying passion for music and entertainment was non-negotiable.
BigStar is the unholy lovechild of the two sides of Nick’s brain. The side that boasts a decade of senior experience of blue-chip corporate accountancy, and the side with a genuine obsession for music and the arts.
The thing is, for all the practical expertise he gained in his corporate past, he came to hate what traditional accountancy stood for. The spreadsheets. The detachment. The goddamn elevator music. All of that was precisely what he didn’t want to be a part of.
So, if he’d been a better DJ, then he would have run off and done that. Instead, he put his energy into founding BigStar.
Julia is the glue that holds it all together; the brains behind the brawn. In other words, she’s the organisational butt-kicker that enables Nick and BigStar to be, well, Nick and BigStar.
Like Nick, she knows what it’s like to work in the finance sector (having worked for a number of high profile banks), but she’s also worked in the charity sector leading in events and corporate relations.
But that was all before Nick sold her the anti-accountancy accountancy dream. Now she’s busy making it a reality.
